Cyber Security or Network Security, which is most important?

The terms Cyber Security and Network Security are at times used interchangeably. But actually they are very different. Cyber Security relates to the security of the connection to and from the network and the Internet, while Network Security deals with the local intranet or computer system.

Network administrators are tasked with developing strong usernames and passwords as well constructing a secured infrastructure. The infrastructure consists of firewalls, UTM’s network hardening, employee training, full disk encryption, and the list goes on. These are just some of the tools and techniques used for Network Security.

Those that deal with Cyber Security have a different task list to tackle. Some of those duties and techniques are penetration testing, develop or purchase network security software, and general education employees on types of emails not to click on to keep the network secured. Once again this is not an exhausted list, there are many other duties and the list is growing daily.

As you can see they are both very important and really no one is more important than the other. To have your network as secure as possible you need to have both, not just one or the other, this goes for the SOLO/small offices as well. The cost can be very low considering the consequences of losing control of your data.
